Seattle's Reply, recited by Joseph Campbell
"In 1854, Chief Seattle is said to have given this speech as a response to the governor of Washington's wish to buy their land. The speech is commonly called "Seattle's Reply", but there is a great deal of controversy surrounding the actual words of Chief Seattle. This version of the speech is said to be a modified version by the screenwriter Ted Perry, writing it for the purpose of his ecological movie "Home". The speech is famous for its beautiful ecological statement and has been quoted in numerous ecological texts.
